An organic-certified vineyard

Organic viticulture at the heart of Domaine Henri Bourgeois

Anchored for ten generations in Chavignol, in the heart of the Sancerre vineyards, the Bourgeois family cultivates a vision of viticulture based on respect for life and the preservation of natural balances. Transmission, patience, and precision are at the heart of their daily work, driven by an intimate connection to the land and terroirs.

It was with this philosophy in mind that Domaine Henri Bourgeois began its conversion to organic farming several years ago. This commitment was carefully considered, pursued with rigor and humility, and culminated in official certification for the 2023 vintage.

Conscious cultivation

Organic farming: our environmentally friendly practices

The approach is based on a simple belief: the terroir expresses itself fully when it is respected. Work in the vineyard follows the natural rhythm of the seasons, without artifice or excess.

The soils are nourished with natural fertilizers, and each intervention is designed to promote deep rooting, revealing the identity of the vineyard.

Natural grass cover, gentle canopy management, and stimulation of microbial life in the soil all contribute to creating a living, rich, autonomous ecosystem.

This constant care fully illustrates our commitment to organic farming, a patient and respectful approach that naturally extends to the work in the cellar.

From the cellar to the bottle

Responsible winemaking

The winemaking process follows the same philosophy of respect. The goal is simple: interfere as little as possible, but always at the right moment.

Domaine Henri Bourgeois has implemented a rigorous management system for winemaking by-products. Pomace, lees, and filtration earth are sorted, recovered, or recycled. Solid elements are sent for distillation, while liquid effluents are treated via a specialized circuit. Packaging is also systematically sorted and sent for appropriate recycling.

Nothing is left to chance, and nothing is kept on site unnecessarily. In this way, every material finds a new life in line with our commitment to nature.

A different kind of welcome

Sustainable hospitality in Chavignol

Just a stone’s throw from the Chavignol vineyards, the Hôtel Famille Bourgeois and its restaurant, La Côte des Monts Damnés, naturally extend the estate’s commitments.

Here, understated elegance goes hand in hand with constant attention to the impact of every action. The welcome is designed to combine comfort and responsibility.

Energy and water consumption are controlled, while the materials chosen prioritize sustainability. Linen management, temperature control, and the careful selection of eco-labeled cleaning products reflect a quiet but constant commitment. Every detail reflects a careful balance between respect for the environment and the well-being of guests.

At the table, the approach remains faithful to the spirit of the place: sincere cuisine based on seasonal products and directly linked to the Berry region.

A shared vision

From Sancerre to New Zealand

The commitments made by the Bourgeois family find a natural echo on the other side of the world.

In New Zealand, the Clos Henri estate—founded by the Bourgeois family in the early 2000s—has been developing certified organic viticulture, committed to biodynamics since the 2013 vintage.

Two hemispheres, one philosophy: to bring to life, through each wine, the sincerity of unspoiled nature and the high standards of family expertise.
